Project-X Overview
Project-X is a horizontally-scrolling shoot 'em up for DOS, structured across five distinct stages. Each stage concludes with a unique boss encounter, and the game offers a limited continue system allowing players to restart from the level they lost on, up to the third stage.
Its weapon system is central to progression. Defeated enemies release blue tokens used to select from several armaments. These include four primary forward-firing weapons with varying power, alongside auxiliary options like homing missiles, a speed boost, and a temporary stealth mode for invulnerability. A special "build" attack provides a powerful, one-time blast.
The game presents a challenging experience with enemy assaults coming from varied and tricky angles. A notable technical feature is its software-based auto-fire emulation, which aids playability on keyboard setups, making it more accessible in emulated environments.
