Noctropolis Overview
The player controls Peter Grey, a bookstore owner and fan of a comic series, after he is transported into its fictional setting. This city, called Noctropolis, exists under a perpetual night sky due to an old volcanic disaster. Peter must assume the role of the comic's hero, Darksheer, whose recent disappearance coincides with the escape of five major villains.
Gameplay involves navigating this environment through a verb based interface accessed with a right click. Players interact with characters and objects, combine inventory items, and solve puzzles to progress the story, in a manner similar to other graphic adventures from publishers like Sierra and LucasArts. The presentation combines digitized backgrounds with full motion video sequences for many conversations and story scenes.
The central narrative task involves discovering who freed the criminals and stopping their rampage, while Peter also seeks a way to return home. Darksheer himself is a non powered hero who relies on ingenuity, often aided by a reformed villain named Stiletto.
