Doom II – Perdition’s Gate Overview
Perdition's Gate functions as a commercial expansion for DOOM II, though it operates by substituting the entire set of thirty two original levels. This modification does not introduce alterations to core gameplay systems such as weapons or enemy types.
A narrative framework is provided, recontextualizing the demons as an extraterrestrial species originating from a world named Hell. This story is conveyed through a separate documentation file and brief text displayed on intermission screens, which take the place of the standard level name graphics. However, because the add on is fundamentally a collection of maps, the original DOOM II story screens intermittently appear during play.
The package includes some original musical compositions and graphical textures alongside its new levels. The experience remains that of a first person shooter, with the challenge and pacing inherent to the base game's mechanics.
