Blackthorne Overview
Blackthorne is a side-view platform action game where the player controls Kyle Blackthorne. He returns to his home planet of Tuul after two decades to confront Sarlac, a warrior who seized power using a Darkstone artifact after overthrowing Kyle's father, King Vlaros.
The gameplay involves navigating maze-like environments, which requires exploration and solving occasional puzzles. Combat is performed primarily with a pump action shotgun, a weapon that can be upgraded. Other tools, such as bombs, serve multiple functions including damaging foes, destroying generators, and opening sealed doors.
Progress through the game's non-scrolling levels is gated by finding keys to access new areas. The structure shares certain similarities with games like Prince of Persia, focusing on traversal and strategic engagement with enemies.
