Big Game Fishing Overview
Big Game Fishing is a DOS title that combines strategic resource management with a fishing simulation. Players assume the role of an angler on a vacation in the South Seas, where the primary goal is to fund the trip by meeting daily catch quotas.
The experience is divided into two distinct phases. One involves planning in port, where players must purchase fuel, bait, and equipment like lines and flares, then navigate their rented boat to chosen fishing grounds while monitoring weather and fuel levels. The other phase is the act of fishing itself, which requires actively handling the rod, boat speed, and bait to hook and land predator species such as marlin and swordfish.
Economic pressure is a constant factor, as failing to earn enough from the day's catch to cover expenses like boat rental and supplies will end the game. This creates a challenging progression where players typically start in coastal waters to build capital before attempting more lucrative, deeper northern waters. The game includes features like saving progress, multiple difficulty levels, and an SOS signal for emergencies.
