Altered Beast Overview
Altered Beast is a platformer set in Ancient Greece where players control a resurrected hero tasked by Zeus to save Athena. The central mechanic involves transforming into various beasts by collecting spirit balls from defeated enemies, with each form granting unique abilities like flight or enhanced attacks.
Progression involves fighting through groups of undead and demonic foes, culminating in a boss encounter at each stage. The final objective is to confront the god Neff, who is holding Athena captive. While the basic human form has limited combat options, the animal transformations provide a significant power increase.
The experience supports both solo play and a cooperative mode for two players on the same screen. Different versions of the game feature a varied roster of creatures, including werewolves, dragons, tigers, and bears, each tied to specific levels.
