Airborne Ranger Overview
Players assume the role of a U.S. Army airborne ranger inserted behind enemy lines in this Microprose action simulation. The experience is structured around discrete missions, each preceded by a planning phase where equipment such as first aid kits, explosives, and ammunition is selected and loaded into supply pods.
Missions occur in arctic, desert, or temperate environments and involve objectives like destroying depots, rescuing prisoners, or gathering intelligence. Execution requires navigating the terrain, which may include hazards like minefields, while engaging enemy forces or employing stealth to avoid detection. Success depends on reaching an extraction point within a time limit.
The game offers a challenging progression through two primary modes. One mode allows for isolated mission practice, while the other links operations into a campaign where performance is rewarded with promotions and medals. A range of difficulty settings further adjusts the challenge across all twelve missions.
