The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang is an action-rpg set across the Vladamasco Islands. The player controls the young vampire prince Spike, who embarks on a quest to rescue his parents and protect the islands from the antagonist Von Hesler, though a deeper mystery regarding who is truly in control is suggested.
Gameplay involves navigating various locations and confronting a range of enemies, such as animated garlic bulbs and bomb-throwing cats. Spike is joined by CPU-controlled companions during the journey. His combat options include a cape strike, a boomerang-like hat throw, and the use of magic cards which can attack, heal, or empower allies.
Health recovery is achieved by collecting items from defeated enemies. The specific item differs between regional versions of the game. Spike's equipment can be upgraded, with four distinct hats available for purchase to aid in the conflicts.
