Smash Tennis Overview
Smash Tennis is a sports simulation focused on tennis matches. Players control an athlete on the court, using timed button presses to hit the ball, a control scheme consistent with other titles in the genre.
The primary competitive structure is a tournament mode where the objective is to secure a Grand Slam victory. Matches in this mode are condensed to a single set each. A roster of twenty distinct male and female athletes is available, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that affect play.
Outside of tournaments, exhibition matches offer customizable conditions. The playing surface can be selected, which directly alters the ball's physics. Venues range from realistic stadiums to fictional locations like a beach or temple grounds. These exhibition courts sometimes feature humorous visual interruptions, such as a mountaineer being knocked over by the ball.
A specific exhibition option, the "Whistle-Stop-Tour," involves facing a single opponent across a series of different court surfaces. This mode replaces any narrative or story-driven progression found in some similar games.
