Majūō Overview
Majūō is a Super Nintendo side scrolling platformer. The player controls Abel, who must rescue his daughter from a demonic realm after her kidnapping by his former ally Bayer.
Bayer has turned to demonic powers, sacrificing Abel's wife in a ritual meant to revive the King of Demons. This forces Abel on a quest where he risks losing his own humanity to succeed.
Gameplay involves defeating bosses who leave behind large gems. The color of the gem at the moment of collection determines Abel's transformation into one of three demon forms: a red Harpy, a blue Dragon, or a green Lizard. Each form possesses unique attack capabilities.
The game's design shows clear influences from other action platformers of its era, such as Castlevania and Contra, in its core mechanics and progression.
