Kidō Butōden G Gundam Overview
Kidō Butōden G Gundam is a one-on-one fighting game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Its premise is derived from the 1994 anime series, which depicts a world where nations settle disputes through a tournament fought with representative Gundam mobile suits.
The roster consists of ten different Gundams, each with a unique arena and musical theme. One of these is a secret character accessible only through a code. Players control their chosen machine using the four face buttons for varying strength punches and kicks, while shoulder buttons provide quick dashes. Each Gundam possesses special moves, including more powerful desperation attacks that become available when the character's life bar is low and flashing red.
Multiple play modes are available. Versus Battle facilitates two-player competition, where participants select a Gundam, a pilot who influences stats like defense and speed, and a stage. This mode uses a best-of-three format and allows for handicaps. For solo play, Story Battle limits the player to five specific Gundams for a series of nine single-round fights. Championship Battle offers a similar single-player experience but uses the full roster and best-of-three matches, omitting any narrative elements. Team Battle is a two-player mode where each side assembles a squad of up to five Gundams, eliminating defeated units in one-round matches until one team is victorious.
