Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius Overview
Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius is a horizontal-scrolling shooter that parodies the conventions of the Gradius series. Players control one of sixteen selectable characters, each possessing distinct weapon systems and abilities.
The game's mechanics include a variety of colored bell power-ups that grant specific effects. These range from offensive capabilities like screen-clearing bombs and damaging vocal attacks to defensive options such as temporary lasers and transformations that increase the character's size. Points collected can also contribute to earning extra lives.
Level progression involves navigating through enemy waves before confronting a boss, often designed with eccentric appearances. A notable addition for this third series installment is a configurable difficulty setting, giving players direct control over the challenge level. The presentation is further distinguished by the inclusion of digital voice samples.
The roster features both returning and new characters, such as the standard Vic Viper ship, a kitten with a penetrating wave weapon, a fairy whose missiles aim based on her position, and a stickman piloting a paper airplane.
