Genocide 2 Overview
Genocide 2 is a Super Famicom adaptation of a PC title, placing the player in control of a large robotic ninja called the Tracer. The setting is a post-war world where the CONEX corporation is exploiting reconstruction efforts to dominate the globe, a plan opposed by a veteran of the previous conflict.
Gameplay involves navigating stages to reach an exit, with some levels requiring specific targets to be destroyed. The Tracer's primary weapon is a sword, but it can also carry additional armaments. A key secondary tool is the Betty, a projectile that can be aimed in eight directions, blocks enemy fire, and automatically returns after being thrown. In this version, the Betty's use is constrained by a limited duration before it requires recharging.
Progression carries persistent elements, as collected items and damage sustained by the Tracer are retained between stages. Each stage also tracks the player's best completion time. Compared to its original release, this port features reduced graphical fidelity, fewer enemy varieties, and the omission of one mid-boss and the entire first stage. The opening section of the game was also rearranged, with the initial two levels of the second stage presented in reverse order.
