Front Mission Overview
Front Mission is a turn based strategy role playing game set on Huffman Island in the Pacific Ocean. The conflict involves two major powers, the USN and the OCU, whose military reliance on large mech robots known as Wanzers defines the era's warfare.
The narrative is initiated by an event called the Larcus Incident, where an unsanctioned OCU reconnaissance mission led by soldier Roid goes awry. His fiance Karen is killed during an ambush by USN Commander Driscoll, and the resulting destruction is blamed on the OCU, sparking the second Huffman War. A year later, with the OCU's military weakened, a disgraced Roid is recruited from a Wanzer fighting arena by Colonel Olson to lead a mercenary unit named Carrion Crow, motivated by the chance to confront Driscoll.
Gameplay unfolds from an isometric perspective, centered on large strategic battles that advance the story. Between these conflicts, players can visit towns to interact with characters, access shops for new Wanzer parts and weapons, and manage repairs. Each Wanzer is a distinct unit whose combat capabilities are determined by its equipped gear, allowing for varied attack styles.
Character progression is tied to experience gained from defeating enemies and employing techniques in battle. Repeated use of specific attacks increases their potency over time, adding a layer of strategic development to the challenging tactical encounters.
