Appleseed: Prometheus no Shintaku is a side scrolling shooter for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Its narrative is derived from Masamune Shirow's cyberpunk manga and anime, a property he developed prior to Ghost in the Shell. The story follows two ESWAT operatives, Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires, as they undertake missions to protect Olympus, a utopian nation that stands as a rare refuge after a global war.
Gameplay involves progressing through a series of missions, each preceded by a briefing. Both characters are equipped with a standard sidearm and a unique special weapon that has limited ammunition. They also carry grenades, which can be deployed freely during play.
