X-Perts Overview
X-Perts is a side-scrolling action title connected to the Eternal Champions universe, unfolding in an underwater research facility called AQUA. The setting is a single, interconnected lab complex, which players navigate using a strategic overview screen to track character positions, objectives, and threats.
Players direct a team of three characters, led by Shadow Yamoto, who form an anti-corruption unit in a timeline where she survived an assassination. The core loop involves switching control between these operatives to combat terrorists, complete mission tasks, and manage environmental hazards. Each character has distinct combat abilities and specialized skills, such as engineering or computer science, which determine how quickly they can perform certain objectives.
Mission progression is segmented into chapters that function as save points, preserving the state of the entire facility. Beyond direct fighting, gameplay includes using unique "torture moves" to interrogate enemies for information, a challenging mechanic that can accidentally kill the target. Characters left to perform tasks autonomously will defend themselves if attacked, though with reduced effectiveness compared to direct control.
