TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96 Overview
TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96 is a fishing simulator for the Sega Genesis, functioning as a sequel to TNN Bass Tournament of Champions. The core experience involves either a free fishing mode or structured tournaments, with success in the latter providing the funds necessary to purchase better rods, reels, lures, lines, and boats.
Gameplay unfolds across six real-world lakes, including Lake Okeechobee and Bull Shoals. Players navigate a top-down map to select a fishing spot, after which the perspective shifts to a third-person view for casting, managed by a power meter. Once the lure is in the water, the camera provides a top-down underwater view where fish can be observed. The act of reeling offers a choice of five speeds, and bait manipulation remains possible. A tournament day begins at 7:30 AM and requires a timely return to weigh the catch.
The free fishing mode allows for customization of conditions like season, weather, and wind, while these elements change dynamically during tournaments. The game also includes a music player for its soundtrack. Its visual presentation for the fishing sequences differs from the PC version of the same name, instead resembling the earlier SNES release's over-the-shoulder perspective.
