ESPN Baseball Tonight Overview
ESPN Baseball Tonight is a baseball simulation for the Sega Genesis. It features authentic MLB team licenses, though the rosters are populated by generic players rather than real athletes. The core experience involves exhibition matches and playoff brackets, with additional practice modes for honing pitching and batting skills separately. A dedicated Home Run Derby mode is also included for focused power-hitting.
The on-field perspective is consistently from behind the batter, whether the user is pitching or at the plate. Certain fielding actions require manual input, such as throwing the ball back to the pitcher to resume play. Users can customize their experience with options to toggle fielding errors and assisted defensive controls, allowing for a fair adjustment to the game's challenge level.
A later Sega CD release expanded the package. This version introduced a full 162-game season mode and supplemented the presentation with more than ten minutes of video highlight footage.
