The Immortal Overview
The Immortal presents an isometric adventure where players navigate a dungeon's eight levels. The objective involves locating a missing mentor, with the search leading through environments filled with traps and hostile creatures.
Gameplay centers on a cycle of encountering hazards, often resulting in death, then applying learned solutions to progress. This trial and error approach makes the experience challenging, as success requires memorizing trap patterns and enemy behaviors. Puzzles involve environmental navigation and the strategic use of collected inventory items.
Interaction with dungeon inhabitants varies; some characters provide information or enable trade, while others initiate combat. Fights occur directly on the exploration map or a dedicated screen, depending on the version. A telegraphing system gives players a brief warning of incoming attacks, allowing for defensive maneuvers like dodging or counter attacking from different sides.
Special sequences, such as navigating a magic carpet through flames, provide variety. The structure allows for unlimited retries on each level, with password entry serving as a method to skip ahead, as the game lacks a traditional save function.
