Ultimate League Soccer Overview
Ultimate League Soccer is a side scrolling soccer simulation for the NES. It offers both single player championship modes and two player exhibition matches, with the option to spectate computer controlled teams.
Before a match, participants select from eight national teams, each with distinct statistical profiles. These teams represent France, England, the United States, Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Australia, and Germany. One championship mode uses the full roster, while another is limited to the first four nations listed. Further customization includes choosing a uniform color and one of three tactical formations.
Match length is adjustable, with periods that progress faster than real time. On field controls are context sensitive, differentiating actions for players with and without possession. Passing, shooting, and tackling are mapped to two primary buttons, with shot power depending on input duration. Goalkeeping is a manual function for the player. If a match ends in a draw, the outcome is determined by a penalty shootout.
