Hudson Hawk Overview
"Hudson Hawk" is a platformer for the NES that adapts the 1991 film. The player controls Eddie Hawkins, a master cat burglar recently released from prison who is forced back into heists. His objective is to retrieve pieces of a crystal, created by Leonardo Da Vinci, which powers a machine that can produce gold.
The plot is driven by villains Darwin and Minerva Mayflower, who have kidnapped Eddie's friend to coerce him into stealing the crystal fragments. These pieces are hidden within Da Vinci's artworks located in various global settings, including an auction house, the Vatican, and an Italian castle. Eddie encounters a range of obstacles, from security personnel and animals to more unusual foes like nuns and paparazzi.
Gameplay revolves around navigating these environments. Eddie's primary tool is an infinite supply of baseballs, used to attack enemies, distract dogs, and activate switches. Movement options include crawling to avoid hazards and shimmying across ropes and pipes. Players must also manipulate boxes to solve environmental puzzles and access new areas. The assortment of enemies and environmental navigation suggests a fair level of challenge.
