Felix the Cat Overview
Felix the Cat for the NES is a platforming game where the player controls the cartoon character on a rescue mission. The objective is to save Kitty, who has been taken by the Professor in an attempt to steal Felix's magic bag.
Gameplay is structured across four distinct environment types. These include standard platforming stages, swimming sections using floats or dolphins, underwater areas, and flying sequences with various vehicles like planes or umbrellas. Progression involves navigating these areas, overcoming obstacles, and defeating enemies.
A central system involves collecting cat symbols to power up Felix's arsenal. Accumulating a set number causes milk bottles or hearts to appear, which are used to enhance weapons. The available weapons, which range from boxing gloves to vehicles like tanks, are context-dependent and tied to the specific level type. Superior weapons feature a depleting energy meter that can be restored with milk bottles.
Taking damage from an enemy will downgrade Felix's current weapon. If he is hit while equipped with his basic standard weapon, he loses a life. A separate Game Boy release offers nearly identical gameplay but contains a reduced number of levels.
