Balloon Kid is a side-scrolling platform game where the player guides a young girl through eight levels. Her objective is to catch up with her brother, who is carried away by a large cluster of balloons.
Movement is handled by floating with a pair of balloons rather than traditional jumping. Controlling altitude requires careful, repeated presses of a button, while the screen continuously scrolls, creating a challenging pace to maintain.
A separate competitive mode for two players is available using a link cable. Here, the goal shifts to forcing the opponent's character into environmental dangers.
