Wacky Races Overview
Wacky Races for the Game Boy Color is a racing title adapted from the 1960s cartoon. Its gameplay involves navigating tracks from a behind-the-vehicle perspective, with a course layout that recedes into the distance. Racers can collect power-ups scattered on the track, which provide offensive and defensive capabilities such as missiles, temporary invincibility, and speed boosts. Opposing drivers also deploy hazards like mines and oil slicks.
The game features eight distinct characters and vehicles from the series, each with unique performance attributes. Initially, only four are available, with the remainder challenging to unlock through gameplay progression. Races occur across nine United States locations, from Alaska to New York.
Multiple modes structure the competition. One mode organizes tracks into three cups, requiring a top-three finish to advance. Another uses shortened tracks and eliminates the last-place racer at each checkpoint. A championship mode scores points across all tracks based on finishing order, while a time trial allows for solo practice.
