Super Robot Taisen R Overview
Super Robot Taisen R is a turn based strategy game where players command teams of sentient robots on a grid based map. The setting involves a planet of these robots, many of which have been taken over by a space creature named Gil Gil Gan, leading to conflict. Players begin by selecting a primary team from licensed Gundam, Mazinger, or Getter Robo units, with one robot designated as a critical leader.
Gameplay revolves around moving units across varied terrain and engaging enemies. When adjacent to a foe, a menu provides options to attack, use spiritual powers, or negotiate. The negotiation system is particularly significant, as many enemy units are potential allies, though they often must be weakened first. Losing the leader robot results in a game over, and destroyed friendly units are not automatically repaired, making preservation challenging.
Units gain experience from defeating enemies, with level ups improving statistics like speed, armor, and health. A separate resource called spiritual power enables special commands that modify combat variables. Health can be restored by positioning a robot on a base, which also provides power up items like new weapons and shields between missions.
Combat initiates a simple animation sequence. Prior to an attack, the player selects a weapon, choosing between hand to hand or ranged options. Ranged attacks prevent counter fire, a tactical advantage. Weapon effectiveness is influenced by accuracy and power ratings, which are further modified by terrain and the positional status of units on land, sea, or air.
