Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the Game Boy Advance is an action RPG set in the city of Baldur's Gate. While the core narrative and many gameplay systems are shared with the console versions, the adaptation required specific changes for the handheld format.
The visual presentation shifts to a two-dimensional isometric view. Players control a single human character, who can be specialized as a warrior, archer, or wizard. This differs from the console release, which offered distinct races. The city environment features enhanced interactivity, allowing characters to enter numerous buildings, speak with residents, and destroy objects like barrels directly with their weapons.
Gameplay retains the action-oriented combat of the original, though certain actions, such as jumping, are not available. A few new side quests have been incorporated into this portable version.
