Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megaboz Overview
Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megaboz is a text adventure that serves as a chronological prequel to earlier titles in the series. The player assumes the role of an adventurer tasked by King Wurb Flathead to end a curse that has plagued the Empire for ninety-four years. This curse originated when Megaboz the Magnificent retaliated against Lord Dimwit Flathead the Excessive for erecting a giant self-portrait statue.
Gameplay centers on puzzle-solving, which can involve using inventory items or tackling logic-based challenges. The player begins with an ancestral parchment that may be crucial to resolving the overarching mystery. To assist with the challenging puzzles, the game incorporates several aids including an interactive map, a built-in hint system, and a reference work called the Encyclopedia Frobozzica.
The interface combines text input with graphical elements, featuring colored scene depictions and borders. Beyond the main adventure, four standalone mini-games are included, each based on established logic puzzle formats.
