River Raid Overview

In this vertically scrolling action game, the player controls a jet aircraft. The primary objective involves navigating a river to destroy enemy bridges, which are described as vital targets.
Survival depends on managing two key systems. The jet's cannon has unlimited ammunition and is used against both enemy units and the bridges, though it can also inadvertently destroy needed fuel stations. The aircraft must periodically fly over these stations to refuel and continue its mission.
The environment presents a challenging threat. The river is defended by various enemy units including aircraft, helicopters, ships, and balloons. Contact with any enemy craft or with the riverbanks results in the loss of a life.
