Rayman is a side scrolling platformer where players control a character who lacks arms and legs. His primary abilities include jumping and a brief hovering maneuver using his hair. For combat, he can project his fists as a standard attack or charge them for increased power.
The game's conflict arises when a villain named Mr. Dark captures the Toons, beings who provide light. Their absence allows evil creatures to spread, destabilizing the world. The player's objective is to defeat Mr. Dark by rescuing these captive friends.
Occasionally, special power ups become available, granting the character a temporary unlimited flying capability. This is used to traverse more complex environmental layouts.
