Jagged Alliance Overview
Jagged Alliance is a turn-based tactical game set in the fictional country of Metavira. The core conflict involves securing Fallow trees, a resource for an experimental medicine, from a hostile force led by Santino.
Players manage a team of hired mercenaries who possess distinct personalities, specialties, and salary requirements. These specialists include combat roles, explosives handlers, medical personnel, and technicians for equipment maintenance. Interpersonal dynamics within the squad can affect performance.
Gameplay alternates between a strategic overview of Metavira's sectors and close-up tactical combat. Controlling more sectors increases income by securing more trees. Entering a contested sector shifts the game to a turn-based tactical mode where movement and actions are governed by a finite action point system per mercenary. Combat persists until one side is eliminated or retreats.
Following a successful engagement, players can spend funds to hire native guards to defend the sector and workers to process the trees. Wounded mercenaries must return to the home base for medical treatment, while uninjured personnel there can undergo training to improve their skills. The campaign is punctuated by various scripted and random events that introduce additional complications.
