Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games Overview
Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games is a turn-based tactical strategy title with role-playing elements, playable alone or with others. Players act as a commander contracting specialists from the A.I.M. agency to form a squad for various objectives. These missions are standalone operations, linked by a minimal story, and include tasks like sabotage, hostage rescue, or surviving enemy attacks.
Before each operation, a team of up to six mercenaries is selected and equipped, requiring careful resource management. Each operative possesses unique stats, skills, and personalities that influence combat. The gameplay uses an action-point system where every move or attack consumes a finite resource, making tactical positioning and measured aggression challenging.
Combat occurs on grid-based maps where terrain, weather, and lighting affect visibility and cover. Enemy forces range from basic guards to well-equipped soldiers, with AI that responds to player actions. A shift from the original game is that mercenaries are hired per mission, focusing gameplay on immediate tactical execution rather than long-term campaign management.
The game expands upon its predecessor with new content, including ten additional mercenaries, a broader arsenal with heavy weapons, and more diverse environments like deserts and snowfields. It also introduces a scenario and campaign editor, allowing for the creation of custom missions and linked campaigns. Multiplayer functionality supports competitive or cooperative play for up to four participants over a network.
