DreamWeb Overview
DreamWeb is a top down adventure game set in a gritty futuristic city. The player controls Ryan, a bartender plagued by nightmares and waking visions. His situation escalates when a monk visits him in a dream, revealing a conspiracy by seven individuals to destroy the Dreamweb, a protective barrier against darkness. Ryan is recruited as a "deliverer" to assassinate these threats, an offer he accepts in a desperate bid for peace.
Gameplay involves navigating static screen locations and interacting via point and click. A key logistical consideration is inventory management, as many objects can be collected but only some are useful. Dialogue is linear and necessary for progression, often revealing new locations. The game's tone is defined by its challenging moral choices, frequently resolving conflicts through lethal violence that can claim innocent lives, and it includes graphically explicit sexual content.
The narrative context was expanded in the original release through a separate forty page diary, written by Stephen Marley. This document details Ryan's psychological decline and the events leading to the game's start, framing his actions as either madness or destiny.
