Dragonsphere Overview
Dragonsphere is a graphic adventure from MicroProse, their third title in the genre. It employs a third person perspective and a verb based interface for interacting with the world, offering a wide array of command and object combinations. The player controls Callash, the newly crowned king of Gran Callahach, who must confront the sorcerer Sanwe before his magical imprisonment ends.
This impending conflict stems from an event two decades prior, when the court wizard Ner Tom used the Dragonsphere spell to contain Sanwe. The gameplay involves navigating hand painted environments, solving mostly inventory based puzzles, and engaging in branching dialogues. These conversations can have challenging consequences, as some choices lead directly to the protagonist's death.
The game world reacts extensively to player input, providing many unique text responses. Visually, it features hand painted backgrounds alongside some digitized animation, presenting a style comparable to other contemporary adventures. Callash's journey to the prison is not just a physical quest, as it promises to reveal unsettling truths about his own identity and expose a deeper conspiracy.
