Dragon History Overview
Dračí Historie is a point-and-click adventure game from the Czech Republic. Its gameplay involves collecting items from the environment to solve puzzles, following the standard conventions of its genre. The player interacts with the world using the mouse, where the right button performs actions and the left button examines objects, eliminating the need for a separate verb menu.
The narrative centers on Bert, a young dragon living in a peaceful, civilized society of dragons and humans. His father's sudden disappearance, rumored to be for treasure, sets one part of the story in motion. Concurrently, a sentient wand named Eveline, acting out of boredom, begins causing chaos by manipulating Bert into casting spells on puppets and troubling locals. Bert's quest thus becomes twofold: to undo the wand's mischief and to find his missing father.
Player navigation is aided by a map, which populates with new locations as they are discovered and allows for instant travel between them. Conversations with other characters are handled through a branching dialogue tree, presenting players with multiple listed responses to choose from. Inventory management is visualized as the interior of a brown sack, accessed by moving the cursor to the top of the screen, while the map is summoned by moving it to the bottom.
Originally published in 1995 as the first Czech game on CD, it was later released as open-source freeware by its developer in 2006.
