Downhill Challenge presents a 3D skiing simulation from a third-person perspective. Players navigate a course where they must pass through designated gates while avoiding obstacles like trees and people on the slopes.
The game features four distinct event types. These can be tackled in a structured Competition mode involving two runs of each event, or practiced individually. Performance is measured by a scoring system that deducts points for infractions such as missing gates or leaving the course.
Multiplayer support allows up to five participants to compete, with their final results compared after all runs are completed. The gameplay requires precision to manage penalties, making it challenging to achieve a high score.
