Dominium Overview
Dominium is a real-time strategy game set in a colonized solar system where the player acts as a military observer. Appointed as a Knight by an elite galactic order, the player is tasked with defending the system from an aggressive neighbor after local authorities reject an ultimatum. The core objective is to secure a majority of planetary fortresses before the opponent does.
Gameplay unfolds simultaneously across seven planets and an interconnecting space map, all using a wraparound hexagonal grid. The player manages both spacecraft for space travel and ground vehicles for planetary exploration, with units consuming fuel for movement. A key activity involves using factories to harvest discovered resources like gold and energy, which fund the production of new units and the hiring of crew.
Unit design is a detailed system, with eight customizable parameters affecting performance and cost. An in-game adviser provides updates on random planetary events. Before starting, a four-digit code sets the challenging difficulty level, influencing enemy behavior and map generation, while also adjusting player attributes like charisma and unit accuracy.
The game supports solo play against a computer opponent or competitive matches for two humans via a serial cable, with an option to include two computer-controlled factions.
