Assault Trooper is an isometric shooter where the player undertakes solo covert operations globally. The commando's assignments involve diverse objectives such as sabotage, assassination, and retrieving documents or personnel.
Gameplay emphasizes tactical planning and stealth over direct confrontation. A weight-based equipment system requires careful selection of firearms, explosives, and protective gear before each mission, aligning the loadout with specific goals. The complete game features fifty missions spread across ten regions, unlocked progressively. Originally distributed as shareware with a limited set of missions, the full version includes all levels plus a mission editor with a demonstration custom level.
