Around the World in 80 Days Overview
Around the World in 80 Days is an educational DOS game where the player assists the character Phineas Fogg. Progress is made by selecting destinations on a world map and solving simple puzzles in various scenes.
Gameplay involves using a set of interactive painting tools to alter each scene. These tools, which include items like a pencil and an eraser, can create or remove objects to overcome obstacles. For instance, text on a sign can be erased to change its meaning. The available actions in any given situation are intentionally limited, making the experience easy and failure-proof.
A secondary antagonist, Baron Hogsbreath, creates some of the problems Phineas encounters. The game's tone is humorous, conveyed through dialogue and animation. Its educational focus is on reading and vocabulary, with certain words in the text being clickable to provide definitions.
