Sparkster Overview
Sparkster is a 2D side-scrolling platformer for the SNES, serving as a direct sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures. The narrative follows the opossum knight Sparkster as he confronts his former ally, the now-corrupt Axel Gear, who has allied with the Empire of Gedol to kidnap Princess Cherry and threaten the Kingdom of Zebulos.
Gameplay involves navigating six levels where the character can jump, attack with a sword, and utilize a rocket pack. This pack enables aerial bursts and enhanced attacks, governed by a dual-meter system that refills over time, allowing for consecutive airborne maneuvers and wall ricochets. Health can be restored by collecting apples, while diamonds and various sword power-ups are also found throughout the stages. One level deviates from the standard platforming by placing the hero inside a giant robot to combat airborne foes.
A hidden collectible system offers an challenging optional objective, where finding seven concealed swords transforms Sparkster into a golden version. Progress can be saved using a password system.
