Maten Densetsu: Senritsu no Ooparts Overview
Maten Densetsu: Senritsu no Ooparts is a role-playing game for the Super Nintendo set in a devastated future Japan. The player begins in a ruined version of Tokyo's Akihabara district, confronted by a world where cities lie in rubble and demons roam. A mysterious force has caused the entire nation to float in the sky under constant attack.
Character progression is handled through an energy point system rather than traditional levels, allowing the player to allocate points to various attributes like strength and defense. The game's exploration uses a first-person perspective for navigating complex, maze-like dungeons, while overworld travel involves moving a cursor across a map with the aid of a radar.
Players select one of five initial protagonists, each with unique starting capabilities. The narrative goal involves traveling to the Shinjuku district to uncover information about the catastrophe and locate ancient relics known as ooparts. Along the journey, other human characters and even some demons can be recruited into the party, depending on player actions during encounters.
Combat occurs through random, turn-based encounters. The overall structure and atmosphere of the game, from its dungeon design to its post-apocalyptic setting, share similarities with the Shin Megami Tensei series.
