Championship Pool Overview
Championship Pool is a top-down simulation of billiards for the Super Nintendo. Its primary competitive structure is a knockout tournament where a player must win a series of first-to-four matches against 32 opponents to qualify for a World Championship; a single loss results in elimination. The opponent's turns are not animated, instead cutting to a static image before returning play to the user with the table state altered, allowing matches to proceed quickly.
The interface provides a visual aid for planning shots. A repeating ghost animation previews the path of the cue ball and the first object ball it will strike. This guide updates in real time when the player adjusts the power or spin of the upcoming shot. While offering assistance, the game maintains a challenging precision requirement, particularly for long or sharply angled shots, as the ghost may display random potential outcomes in these situations.
Beyond the tournament, the game includes several other modes. A Challenge mode offers solo variants like 14.1 Continuous, Eight Ball, Nine Ball, and specialized games such as Speed Pool, which is timed, and Three Ball, which scores based on the fewest shots needed to clear three balls. A separate Party mode facilitates multiplayer sessions for two to eight people, supporting standard rule sets like Eight Ball and Nine Ball, as well as games like Rotation, One Pocket, and Ten Ball.
