Twinkle Tale is a fantasy shoot 'em up viewed from above. The player controls Saria, a young witch defending her floating island from an invasion of evil creatures.
Progression involves moving freely across nine distinct stages, with the objective to eliminate all enemies and confront a boss in each area. Collectible treasure can be found during these encounters.
Saria's combat relies on three distinct spells, which can be swapped between at any time. Their potency is increased by gathering power stars, and she also has access to bombs that clear the entire screen.
