Super Daisenryaku Overview
Super Daisenryaku is a Sega Genesis entry in a broader war strategy series. Its core systems derive from Daisenryaku II, though it features a distinct set of maps, some of which are themed after the Phantasy Star universe. Players engage on a hexagonal grid where terrain types influence combat outcomes.
Victory is achieved by seizing opposing capitals. Players control factions, which can be single nations like China or the USA, or alliances such as NATO, each providing access to a specific roster of contemporary military units. These units, purchased with funds, occupy single hexes and possess varied combat capabilities and movement profiles, defining their battlefield roles. For instance, infantry, while weak and slow, can capture cities and facilities, a function not available to more powerful units like tanks.
The game lacks a linear campaign, offering instead a selection of standalone scenarios. These maps support different player counts, from two to four, and allow any mix of human and computer opponents. An editor for creating custom scenarios was included in the computer versions of the series.
