ATP Tour Championship Tennis Overview
ATP Tour Championship Tennis is a tennis simulation for the Sega Genesis that builds upon its predecessor by incorporating the official ATP license. This allows for a roster of thirty two active professionals and several retired legends from the Senior Tour, alongside the ability to generate and improve four custom athletes.
Player performance is governed by seven distinct attributes covering serving, groundstrokes, and movement. The on court action is influenced by four different surface types, each altering ball speed and bounce. A simple three button control scheme is used, where each button corresponds to a specific shot type like lobs, controlled passes, or powerful topspin, with shot placement managed by the directional pad.
Competition takes place across eleven real world ATP tournaments. The primary career experience is the ATP Tour mode, where a created player can earn skill points by advancing through tournament rounds. Other options include standard exhibition matches, a full thirty two player tournament, and a separate event for the retired Senior Tour competitors.
