Sonic 3D Blast Overview
Sonic 3D Blast is a platform game where Sonic must rescue creatures called Flickies from Dr. Robotnik on Flicky Island. The game spans seven levels culminating in a confrontation with Robotnik.
This title represents a departure from the series' typical side-scrolling format, employing an isometric perspective that allows movement in four directions. The pace of play is slower than in other Sonic games. Enemy robots, or badniks, are limited to five per area, and freeing the animals inside requires Sonic to carry them to special rings.
Progression involves guiding these rescued animals; collecting all five in a section can unlock additional items. There is no strict time limit for finishing a level, though completing it quickly yields a bonus. To obtain the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic must first locate either Tails or Knuckles while possessing a minimum of fifty rings.
Historically, it was the final Sonic release for the Mega Drive, one of his few PC appearances, and his sole platform outing on the Sega Saturn. The game's name references its dimensional gameplay rather than fully polygonal graphics.
