Orb-3D Overview
Orb 3D is a space combat game where the player pilots the Millennium Orb against the antagonist Krohn, who wields a black hole. The ship is uniquely equipped to survive this threat, and the mission involves progressing through thirty distinct chambers.
Gameplay centers on navigating these chambers, where the Orb travels around a central plane. The player must use force fields on either side to keep the ship from exiting the area, a task that consumes fuel more rapidly if performed poorly. Within each chamber, the player directs the Orb to dive from its orbital path to strike targets on the central plane, with the common objective being to clear them all.
Resource management is a key element, as the Orb's fuel depletes over time. Credits earned during play can be spent at Vern's Orb-O-Rama to refuel. The game is considered challenging due to this resource drain and the precision required for navigation and targeting. It is often seen as a successor to Beyond the Black Hole because of shared mechanics.
A pair of 3-D glasses was packaged with the game to enhance the visual depth, though they are optional and not necessary to play.
