MagMax Overview
Magmax is a side scrolling shooter where the player controls a weapon system assembled during play. This weapon, created as a last defense against alien conquerors, begins each stage in a minimal, vulnerable state.
Its power grows by collecting components like a head, legs, and a lance, which are scattered across the landscape. Each collected part enhances offensive capabilities, but these parts can be individually destroyed by enemy attacks. The core fighter craft must be protected, as its destruction ends the game.
The setting includes both surface areas and an underworld accessed through craters. Enemy types and available weapons differ between these two zones, with the underground lacking stationary obstacles. Progress is structured around confronting a challenging boss creature at the conclusion of each level.
