Elite Overview
Elite presents a simulated space environment where the player operates as a trader and pilot. Beginning with minimal funds and a basic ship at Lave Station, the core activity involves traveling between star systems to buy and sell goods. Financial progression allows for numerous ship upgrades, which enhance capabilities like defense, firepower, and cargo space.
The experience is structured around a vast, open universe containing hundreds of planets across multiple galaxies. Travel is constrained by a fuel system that limits each jump to a set distance. While there is no prescribed narrative, hostile Thargoid ships provide a recurring combat threat, and attacking non-hostile vessels will damage the player's standing and attract law enforcement.
Gameplay integrates various economic and combat systems into a single first-person perspective. Earning credits can be achieved through methods beyond trade, including missions, mining, or piracy. Space battles are action-based, requiring ship maneuvering and weapon management within the same wire-frame 3D view used for exploration.
