Bram Stoker's Dracula Overview
Bram Stoker's Dracula is a side scrolling platformer for the NES, drawing inspiration from its 1992 film counterpart. The player controls Jonathan Harker on a quest to eliminate Count Dracula, traveling through locations like Transylvania and London.
Levels are structured in two distinct parts, a Daytime section followed by a completely different Nighttime stage. Navigating these areas involves jumping across platforms, overcoming obstacles, and confronting minor foes. The conclusion of a Nighttime stage typically features a boss encounter that must be won to advance.
Harker's basic actions include moving, jumping, and attacking, initially with a knife. The on screen display tracks his health, a countdown timer for the level, and his current weapon. Scattered throughout the environments are question mark boxes that can be struck to reveal items. These provide benefits such as healing, extra time, or more powerful weapons like axes, daggers, or a shotgun. These boxes can also serve as stepping stones to access new areas or enemies.
