True Lies Overview
True Lies for the Game Boy is a handheld adaptation of the 1994 film, condensing the console version's nine levels into five. The gameplay shifts to a strict top-down perspective, with stages that are entirely redesigned rather than directly ported.
As secret agent Harry Tasker, the player's objective is to stop the terrorist leader Aziz and his Crimson Jihad group. Missions are drawn from key film sequences, requiring tasks such as downloading data, locating Aziz, or disarming a nuclear weapon. Progress is blocked by numerous terrorists who wield an arsenal ranging from pistols to flamethrowers and grenade launchers.
Harry begins each stage with a standard pistol featuring unlimited ammunition, though it requires reloading. More potent weapons like machine guns, shotguns, grenades, and mines can be collected, each needing their own separate ammo pickups. The presence of civilians adds a layer of caution, as accidentally killing three will force a level restart. Health powerups and extra lives are scattered throughout the environments to aid in this challenging endeavor.
